Three ways to optimize your website and increase traffic using organic search strategies

When doing business on the Internet, you must have a search engine optimized website. Experts recommend search engine optimization as the best and the most cost effective way to get traffic to your website by boosting your search engine results.

You cannot just slap a page on your website filled with keywords and expect it to boost your search engine rankings. You need to have relevant content that fits the mission and theme of your website in order to enable the search engine spiders to index your site and give your website a higher search engine ranking.

Here are three organic strategies that may help draw more traffic to your site:

1. Organically optimized websites are reader friendly. It’s very important to get the search engine spiders to your site so that they can index your site but you must also remember that real people are actually reading the site and they won’t return to the site if what they read is not informative or does not make sense. If you want to keep the visitors that you get through the search engines coming back to your site you need to give them interesting content that is relevant to the topic of the site otherwise they won’t come back to your site or recommend it to their friends and family.
   
   
2. Organically optimized websites get more links. Inbound links are crucial to building website traffic. When a search engine spider is indexing a site that has a link to your webpage on it the search engine spider will take that link as a personal recommendation to check out your site that will get your site indexed faster. Most websites won’t link to other sites that don’t have relevant content that will be useful to their readers. Adding relevant content to your website will make it more likely that other sites will link to yours which will eventually increase your search engine traffic.
   
   
3. Organically optimized websites will get higher search engine rankings. In the early days of SEO, the search engine spiders were not sophisticated enough to distinguish what the content was on a website, they just searched for set word patterns. As a result websites cropped up that had no real content just strings of keywords. Over time the search engine spiders were made to spot this trick and now scan the entire text of a page to see what the text is before indexing the page. If a site does not have relevant content on the page, the search engine spiders won’t index it. The site will not show up at all in the search engine results pages.

You need to have reader friendly, interesting and relevant content on your site in order to get indexed by the search engine spiders and assigned a rank. Then your site will show up on the search engine results pages.

SEO 101 ~ quick lesson

Ok…what is SEO? Let’s start with the basics. SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization. If you’ve ever used search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN) to find a website to cover a topic or certain business you’re looking for, then you’ve experienced the results of SEO. SEO is when the content and design of a website work in unison to speak to the search engines that scour the world wide web. When a website is optimized to its potential it will have the essential factors that allow the search engines to read and list your site. When the results of a search are displayed they are ranked in a specific order. The ranking is determined by a few factors:
1) Paid advertising (Sponsored links)
2) A well optimized website (Organic)

We won’t get into the paid advertising in this blog, but a well optimized website can make a HUGE difference in your website coming up at the top of the list, resulting in more traffic to your website. More traffic, more business! Just remember…be cautious of any SEO service that guarantees top rankings. Search engines frequently adjust their search criteria so SEO is an ongoing process. A #1 ranked site today can drop in rank tomorrow based on ever changing criteria.

My first Infinite Web Designs blog!

Hello world. This is my very first blog EVER! I struggled with the thoughts of starting this blog….my thoughts won. I didn’t feel that I had much to say in a blog until I was recently talking to some peers and clients about website design and Search Engine Optimization (SEO). It wasn’t until then that I realized most people haven’t a clue about SEO but the ones who do didn’t know anything about it except that if their website isn’t optimized they are losing money to their competition DAILY!!! I recently added SEO to my menu of services and will be using this blog to periodically share my thoughts and ideas on website design, SEO and whatever else I deem important. Get ready for an education.
